Transportation industry accounts for 16% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with the processing and manufacturing of raw materials as emission hotspots. At the same time, the steel and aluminum smelting industries are major contributors to China's industrial carbon emissions. The automotive industry urgently needs to innovate and explore pathways for collaborative carbon reduction with suppliers, to incentivize and accelerate the innovation and application of low-carbon green technologies, and to drive the low-carbon transition of steel and aluminum enterprises. With the support of the Energy Foundation, IPE conducted research on the 'Collaborative Decarbonization of Automotive, Steel, and Aluminum Green Supply Chains'. The research focuses on engaging the automotive industry to set and disclose supply chain carbon reduction targets, implement low-carbon procurement requirements, and incentivize hard-to-abate industries such as steel and aluminum smelting to accelerate the production and supply of low-carbon products, thereby assisting the automotive industry's decarbonization process, supporting China's 'dual carbon' goals, and contributing to global climate change governance.

In November 2024, IPE witnessed 52 companies publishing 54 carbon emission data sheets and 64 companies publishing 66 PRTR data sheets, 191 companies verified the effectiveness of their corrective actions through GCA audits, removing 648 environmental supervision records.

In October 2024, IPE witnessed 92 companies publishing 94 carbon emission data sheets and 100 companies publishing 106 PRTR data sheets, 141 companies verified the effectiveness of their corrective actions through GCA audits, removing 532 environmental supervision records.

October 31, 2024 - The Institute for Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) released the 11th annual Green Supply Chain CITI Evaluation Report, highlighting that driven by environmental information disclosure, Chinese and foreign enterprises have extended environmental and carbon management to upstream supply chain, while leading enterprises have motivated suppliers to reduce environmental impact and carbon emissions.

October 31, 2024 - The Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) published the 7th annual Corporate Climate Action CATI evaluation report in Beijing, highlighting that Chinese and foreign companies are stepping up climate action. Leading companies have required suppliers to conduct carbon management and data disclosure at facility-level, empower them to extend climate governance to upstream supply chain, and motivated them to reduce carbon emissions.

In September 2024, IPE witnessed 276 companies publishing 291 carbon emission data sheets and 307 companies publishing 329 PRTR data sheets, 150 companies verified the effectiveness of rectification through GCA audits, removing 521 environmental supervision records.

In September 2024, Apple released the new carbon-neutral Apple Watch Series 10. We studied Apple's Environmental Product Reports, Supplier Code of Conduct, Environmental Progress Report, and People and Environment in Our Supply Chain: 2024 Annual Progress Report alongside our observation over Apple's green supply chain performance over the past year and identified several positive actions.
