In May 2025, National Business Daily in collaboration with environmental NGO released the 2024 A-Share Environmental Risk Ranking. The ranking shows that as of the end of 2024, 343 companies out of more than 5,300 A-share listed companies were included on the list—a significant drop from 787 companies in 2023. However, the number of supervision records remained high, indicating that environmental risks have become more concentrated among fewer companies. The coal sector stood out as a high-risk area, with 20 companies listed, accounting for over half of the total.
