    2021 Garbage Soring Index (GSI) Report

    The Garbage Sorting Index (GSI) was designed by IPE based on the Snapshot questionnaire to quantify the actual situation of waste sorting in cities, districts (cities) and residential communities at the prefecture level and above in four dimensions: performance of community garbage sorting, community garbage sorting management measures, garbage sorting and transportation, and urban domestic garbage management system. This report uses the Snapshot data as of October 31, 2021 to calculate the community Garbage Sorting Index in the main urban areas of 22 key cities. The evaluation results show that the Yangtze River Delta is the overall leader, following Shanghai's first implementation of garbage classification in China, Suzhou City has built a proven management model and is far ahead with a total score of 86.2, and Nanjing City also ranks third with a score of 52.6; ranking second and fourth are Shenzhen (53.5 points) and Beijing (37.9 points). Tianjin, Xi'an and Zhengzhou ranked next.
