After IPE published the report “Tesla: Pollution under the low carbon halo”, China Water Risk (CWR) picked up the story. Chinese media outlet Southern Weekly also published the most detailed coverage of the report.

In 2021, two environmental groups conducted investigation regarding Tesla's supply chain and found that a number of Tesla's suspected suppliers had severe pollution issues. These include exceeding the wastewater discharge standards, suspected of discharging wastewater by evading supervision, directly discharging exhaust gas, storing hazardous waste without protective measures and causing hazardous waste dispersion and leakage.
