For those with a current or historical non-compliance record, we review the latest 3-years of their performance data to monitor whether sufficient remedial actions are in place. During the reporting period, we engaged with our 30 top-spend direct suppliers in Mainland China in a pilot exercise on voluntary disclosure of environmental information. Among these, 13 suppliers disclose carbon emissions data, and 16 suppliers disclose other environmental emissions data through IPE’s platform. This initiative helped to establish baseline information for our supply chain. With further verification, the data will be helpful for enhancing our scope 3 carbon accounting inventory and developing carbon reduction targets.

M&S expects all wet processors in China to upload their last calendar year environmental data onto the platform no later than each March. M&S uses IPE data as a useful screening tool to ensure environmental compliance at China facilities. For any pollution violations, facilities shall publish their public explanations regarding the reason for the violation, corrective actions undertaken or in progress, and current compliance status within 10 working days from receipt of the notice letter from IPE. If GCA audit is required, facilities need to verify the effectiveness of the corrective actions or continuously disclose information on corrective actions. If the facilities PRTR data and carbon data are not published on IPE platform on time, M&S will not approve the annual ECP self-assessment on Origin. The ECP assessors shall review the facilities’ performance on IPE by end of each March to confirm facilities meeting the minimum requirements.

During 2023, we cross-checked supplier sites representing 95% of our spend against IPE’s public database of environmental violations. First-tier manufacturing suppliers in China also provide information about sub-tier supplier compliance with local environmental laws. This review of over 1,100 sub-tier suppliers against IPE’s public database of environmental violations identified 97 issues in 2023. Of these, 62 had been corrected as of February 2024, and we continue working with the relevant first-tier suppliers and IPE to assess, address, and resolve the remaining issues.

Intel expects all suppliers to meet local laws and regulations and close any gaps or violations quickly. If Intel receives notification of any open non-compliance issues from IPE for a given supplier, Intel will notify the supplier in writing with detailed instructions. Intel expects the Supplier to address or close the issue within one month. Failure to close identified issues with IPE within one month of Intel notifying the supplier may impact supplier report card scoring. Sustained non-compliance may impact future business with Intel.

Intel also requests that select suppliers with facilities in Mainland China to register with IPE and submit an annual Pollutant Release and Transfer Registry (PRTR)... A PRTR is an annual disclosure of resource use and emissions data. PRTR encourages the benchmarking and monitoring of enterprise performance and creates a platform for continuous improvement. It can be a powerful tool for pollution prevention and chemical risk reduction.

AUPUP in collaboration with IPE, aims to enhance suppliers' awareness of environmental compliance management and reduce the overall environmental protection risks in the supply chain. In 2023, AUPUP conducted environmental compliance screenings for 420 key suppliers, identifying 170 suppliers with room for improvement. By the end of the reporting period, 37 suppliers had completed their rectifications, and 133 are scheduled to complete rectifications within 2024.

Commissioned by Vanke, AUPUP will carry out regular quarterly environmental compliance reviews for suppliers in the future. Suppliers with identified issues are required to disclose the causes and rectification status on the IPE website and are mandated to make timely corrections to ensure environmental compliance.

Fii works closely with the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) to improve the environmental management of supply chain. We require Tier 1 suppliers to register on the IPE platform and pay attention to environmental compliance. We require suppliers with large environmental impact to report their annual pollutant emissions on the IPE platform. We select key suppliers to manage environmental compliance through IPE’s Blue Map, including suppliers of raw materials and chemicals as well as solid waste and wastewater treatment services. Suppliers with any environmental violation are required to make corrective actions and contact the IPE for feedback within the specified time limit, so as to remove corresponding regulatory record. In 2023, we cumulatively drove 167 suppliers to register IPE Blue Map accounts to track their own environmental performance, promoted 78 suppliers to publicly disclose their annual pollutant discharge, transfer and carbon data through the IPE platform, and pushed 34 suppliers with environmental regulatory records to complete corrective actions and pass the final review to remove the regulatory records.

To effectively identify and prevent potential risks, we constantly monitor the database managed by The Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) in China to keep track of potential red flags on environmental performance and violation. The IPE system collects and displays factory non-compliance incidents on a regular basis, which can result in penalties ranging from a warning to factory closure and considerable fines. An automatic notification is sent out if any factory is reported for non-compliance. Our sustainability team then conducts an assessment to evaluate the severity of the reported issues and implement relevant follow-up measures until the issues are fixed. In 2023, we successfully prompted 30 environmentally non-compliant suppliers in completing corrections, which were verified by the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) and its accredited third-party, Green Choice Alliance (GCA), leading to the removal of their regulatory records from the IPE’s Blue Map database... In addition, the Group promotes suppliers to disclose their PRTR on the IPE platform, including the amounts of general and hazardous industrial wastes generated, the amount of comprehensive utilization (reuse, recovery, composting of waste), and the reduction target for the coming year, and also demands suppliers to reduce the amount year by year. In 2023, the group promoted 145 suppliers to fill out the PRTR.

Facilities in China should conduct environmental legal compliance screening and monitoring using this IPE screening tool to ensure environmental legal compliance requirements are always met. This also applies to facilities’ upstream suppliers and contractors. As a best practice, the facility should conduct a violation screening quarterly...... If an environmental violation record is found the facility must communicate the violations to the relevant government agency, IPE, and VF within 10 calendar days. Facilities must immediately identify corrective actions and complete all necessary remediation efforts until the violation is delisted by IPE. The same would apply to all facilities upstream suppliers and contractors.

The group has explicitly stipulated in the ‘Request for Proposal’ that bidding companies are required to provide environmental supervision information on the ‘Blue Map’ website for suppliers, emphasizing the importance of trans- parency and openness. Through this measure, we ensure that enterprises in the supply chain consistently disclose their environmental supervision information, thereby collectively pursuing sustainable development goals and achieving the reliability and resilience of the green supply chain.
