At Dell, we are committed to reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices throughout our supply chain. In 2019, we launched a zero waste-to-landfill initiative, which has since expanded to include more direct suppliers and has achieved significant results.
Our Approach
We are working closely with our suppliers to help them improve their waste management practices and achieve zero waste-to-landfill certification. Our approach is built on five key pillars:
-
Defining Project Boundaries and Scope: We work with suppliers to establish a clear management scope, covering areas such as offices, production, warehousing, and living quarters. This helps to ensure that all waste is accounted for and managed responsibly.
-
Providing On-Site Training and Support: We offer comprehensive waste management training to help suppliers build capable management teams and improve their waste management practices. This includes training on waste reduction, recycling, and disposal methods.
-
Benchmarking Against the UL2799 Zero Waste to Landfill Standard: We help suppliers optimize their management systems, refine waste classification, and maintain accurate records. This ensures that they are meeting the highest standards for waste management and reduction.
-
Setting and Tracking Medium- and Long-Term Waste Management Goals: We require suppliers to establish goals and conduct regular evaluations to ensure sustainable and effective operations. This helps to drive continuous improvement and ensure that our suppliers are meeting their waste reduction targets.
-
Promoting Best Practices Across the Supply Chain: We organize online interactive sessions and invite experienced suppliers to share their successful waste reduction cases and creative designs. This helps to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration across our supply chain.
Our Progress
In FY25, twelve suppliers achieved UL Zero Waste to Landfill Platinum certification. We are proud of this achievement and will continue to work with our suppliers to drive further reductions in waste and promote sustainable practices throughout our supply chain.
Our Commitment
At Dell, we are committed to reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices throughout our operations and supply chain. We believe that this is not only good for the environment, but also good for business. By working together with our suppliers and stakeholders, we can drive innovation, reduce waste, and create a more sustainable future for all.
