Zero Carbon Supply Chain Initiative

IPE calls on leading companies, industry coalitions and key institutions to join in the Initiative to advance the decarbonization of supply chains, accelerate the global Race to Zero, and protect our planet Earth.

Impact

Every day, IPE brand and corporate partners work with their suppliers to respond to environmental issues, reduce energy and resource usages
as well as pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions, and promote environmental information and carbon data disclosure

ASUS

Asus used the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) database to identify that supplier A is adjacent to Cuiheng National Wetland Park in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province. This area is an important ecological habitat with a total area of 625.6 hectares. The wetland rate is as high as 63.21%, covering diverse ecological types such as estuarine waters, mangroves, permanent rivers and grass, wood and marshes. It is home to a variety of second-class national key protected wild animals in China, including black kites, black-winged kites and red falcones. Supplier A is a manufacturer of IC packaging and storage equipment. Its key processes include IC baking, solder paste printing, surface mount technology (SMT) placement, reflow soldering, aging testing, and final assembly and packaging, among other high-intensity processing procedures. During the annual on-site audit, ASUS examines its environmental impact assessment report and annual pollution emission detection data (covering domestic wastewater, organizational waste gas and noise) to confirm that it has been approved by the government and complies with relevant regulatory requirements. Considering its geographical location near an ecologically sensitive area, ASUS has requested it to take the following follow-up actions: ? Establish a biodiversity management mechanism: Add a biodiversity policy to its internal management system, formulate specific protection goals and action plans, and regularly review the effectiveness. ? Strengthen communication and disclosure: Effectively convey relevant policies and goals to internal employees and external stakeholders, and evaluate the disclosure of biodiversity commitments through public channels to enhance corporate transparency and sense of responsibility.
